Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Mix-ins and Decoration

  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup colored sugar for decoration

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
  • Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  • Stir in oats and chocolate chips.
  • Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
  • Sprinkle with colored sugar for decoration.

Baking

  • Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
  • Let cool on the baking tray for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

Store your Christmas cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week, or freeze them in a freezer-safe container for up to three months. Make sure your butter is softened for easy mixing, and measure your flour correctly to avoid dense cookies. Feel free to add nuts or dried fruits for added flavor.
