Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast Ensure yeast is active by checking expiration date.
  • 1 cup warm water (between 100°F and 110°F) Check water temperature; too hot can kill the yeast.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Can substitute with honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Even distribution is essential for proper rise.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened) Can substitute with oil or margarine.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix warm water with sugar and sprinkle active dry yeast on top. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  • Pour the melted butter and frothy yeast mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately one hour, until doubled.
  • After the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release air bubbles.
  • Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased pan. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown on top.
