Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 slices slices of bread (white, whole grain, sourdough)
  • 1 large large egg
  • ½ cup grated cheese (cheddar, gruyere, or your favorite)
  • 1 tsp finely chopped fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
  • to taste Salt and black pepper
  • a pinch of cayenne (optional) For added heat

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F or your air fryer to 370°F.
  • Lightly toast the bread using a toaster or broil in the oven for 1–2 minutes on each side.
  • In a bowl, lightly beat the egg. Mix in the grated cheese, chopped herbs, salt, pepper, and cayenne if desired.
  • Spread the egg and cheese mixture evenly over the toast, making sure to reach the edges.

Cooking

  • For the oven: Place the toasts on a baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
  • For the air fryer: Cook the toasts for 5–7 minutes until bubbly and set. Use foil or parchment paper if needed.

Serving

  • Serve the Egg and Cheese Toasts warm. They make a great stand-alone breakfast, or you can add sides like fresh fruit, yogurt, or a hot cup of coffee.

Storage

  • If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to restore crispiness.

Notes

Experiment with different cheeses and toppings like sliced tomatoes, avocado, or cooked bacon. Avoid overcooking the egg to keep it creamy.
