  • 1 lb ground beef You can use ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 1 medium onion, caramelized
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyere) Try different cheeses like cheddar or mozzarella for varied flavors.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Panko breadcrumbs can also be used for added texture.
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Soy sauce can be a suitable alternative.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • optional chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, add a little olive oil or butter over medium heat.
  • Slice your onion thinly and add it to the skillet.
  • Stir occasionally, allowing the onions to cook down, turning golden brown for about 10-15 minutes.

Mixing Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, caramelized onions, shredded cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Shaping and Baking

  • Carefully shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  • Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

Serving

  • Once baked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Ensure that the onions are caramelized well; this deep sweetness will elevate the flavor. Don't overmix the meat mixture to keep the meatloaf tender. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness.
