Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for less grease.
  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced Slice thinly for even cooking.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Can substitute with other types of cheese.
  • 1 onion, chopped Adds flavor to the casserole.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz) Can use homemade if preferred.
  • 1/2 cup milk Regular or low-fat milk works.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder Enhances overall flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season according to preference.
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For browning the beef.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  • In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat and set aside.

Assembling

  • Layer the thinly sliced potatoes in the casserole dish and season them with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup and milk, then pour the mixture over the potatoes.
  • Add the cooked beef and chopped onions on top of the potato layer.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over everything, then cover the dish with foil.

Baking

  • Bake in the oven for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.

Notes

Store leftovers tightly covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can heat in the oven or microwave until warm. You can prepare the casserole a day in advance and bake before serving.
