Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey (lean or extra-lean)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup honey can be substituted with maple syrup or agave nectar
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce tamari can be used for gluten-free option
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar can be substituted with apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced reserve some for garnish
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (canola or avocado) any neutral oil can be used

Instructions

Preparation

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the neutral oil to the skillet.
  • Add the ground turkey to the skillet and cook, breaking it into crumbles. Continue cooking until it is browned and no longer pink—this should take about 6–7 minutes.
  • Lower the heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly so the garlic does not burn.

Sauce Preparation

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Ensure the mixture is well combined.
  • Pour the sauce into the skillet with the turkey. Stir to coat the turkey evenly with the sauce.

Cooking

  • Let the mixture simmer for 3–5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  • Stir in the sliced green onions, reserving a few for garnish.
  • Remove from heat and serve the Honey Garlic Ground Turkey over rice, noodles, or in lettuce cups. Garnish with remaining green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

For more flavor, marinate the ground turkey in the sauce for 30 minutes before cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 3 months.
